The Doctor is in the House!

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Lamoureux last night; a highly regarded sourcing expert and better known as The Doctor from Sourcing Innovation. It was a highly stimulating conversation and I certainly left with a much deeper understanding of the sourcing optimization area, though Michael's mathematical background puts him in a league of his own.

He also gave some insights into the amount of time and effort it takes to run his Blog, with each article taking many hours hour to write; including extensive time committed to background reading, deep research, vendor discussions & demo's, in person meetings etc.

One point that he had mentioned to me in a previous conversation, but really reinforced last night, was the amount of "tactical spend" cost savings he sees in the high-value services categories. And what I really liked was his follow-up point that these saving can then be re-deployed to the strategic side of that service.

His key thrust, specially in the marketing domain, was how 'creative' resources are the ones that investment should be focused on - where value is king. But in other more commoditized areas (e.g. print spend) every effort should be made to manage and reduce costs, so this money can be invested back into the revenue-generating services.
